As you know, I spent the last year abroad, studying in Pisa.
Luckily my soul mate and sister from another mother decided to join me on this big adventure. From day 1, Pisa was a whole new love affair for us.
After our very intense 2- hour daily lectures, we would spend the day chillaxing in the sun, recuperating from wild party nights whilst indulging on crusty pizzas and pasta al dente. On one particular night out we had the pleasure of meeting a lovely girl from the University of Bristol who was teaching English to a bunch of “lively” Pisan teenagers.
It was love at first sight and in no time our twosome transformed into a threesome. Coffee, having become one of our major food groups, was now consumed in the presence of deep discussions and gossip sessions concerning important and not quite so important issues. (Little piece of personal advice: If you don’t want to end up with a broken heart keep away from Italian men in spite of their charm, charisma and allure).
Friday night we were finally reunited after what seemed a lifetime. In the hope of bringing back some Dolce Vita we agreed to have dinner at my new favorite Italian restaurant situated in the heart of Manchester: Avalanche.
The menu is packed with lots of goodies ranging from traditional Italian cuisine to fancy assortments of seafood and steak. In addition, they offer you a changing menu of daily specials.
As it was a special occasion it called for exceptional choices. Before the main event we were served some scrumptious olives, great for impatient people like myself.
I plumped for Carpaccio di Manzo (beef) with rocket salad and grated Parmesan.
H went for mussels in white wine garlic, Parsley, Shallots and Cream served with Crusty Ciabatta. One bucket was not enough so our lovely Italian waiter, witnessing H’s lust for more, served her another portion (or two) on the house.
P chose grilled scallops with rocket, hazelnuts and truffle salsa along with fried zucchinis.
We finished with coffee…
…and P decided to order this delicious bad boy. Trust me, turning this one down was a hard one.
Not only was I able to enjoy great company but this was genuinely one of the best meals I have had in Manchester in a while. If you are in town, check it out, mouthwatering food, impeccable service and a first class ambiance & atmosphere. What more can one ask for?

Ha, I wish, I could be that good and turn down a dessert, ha ha
Love mussels — such a long time I had any, how were the scallops? I always thought it is so pretty how they serve it (with the big shell), but I never really liked them.
I love that last picture of you three — and the way the Italian waiter is standing clichee like behind you =)
Love,
Svenja
